Study shows that among the widely used materials during the construction of a building, cement is the most widely used building material and is also the largest source of industrial pollution. The development of the material

Producing living materials
A team led by Wil Scrubar experimented with cyanobacteria which belong to the genus Synechococcus to create a variety of shaped building blocks. These photosynthesis organisms use carbon dioxide, water, and sunlight to grow and manufacture the building material. This way this invention will play a key role in the absorption of carbon from the atmosphere and combat climate change. Now, colonies of cyanobacteria are then introduced into a solution containing gelatine and sand. Due to certain conditions, these microbes can absorb carbon dioxide helping them grow and produce limestone. Hard brick is attained from the chemical reaction when calcium carbonate mineralizes the gelatine and binds with sand to create the bio cement. To top it up, the most interesting part of the entire process is that these living bricks grow into new brink and reproduce in ideal conditions. Therefore, if these materials can grow biologically then they can be manufactured. But one of the major drawbacks is that the living building materials cannot survive or multiply in arid conditions they only survive in humid conditions.They can be the next modern advancement that’ll help solve not only polution from buildings but vast areas in time.
